Snow People
I can use the PINCH technique to create a snow person out of clay.
Since the earliest times, mankind has used clay in many forms. As a building material, pottery, for treating digestive ailments and other purposes. Clay has played a large roll in the advancement of man, its an early form of technology. 96.5% of the earth is covered with water, clays main ingredient is water. Students will use pearl paints to finish their snow people and add real sticks for arms. VOCABULARY: PINCH - Use your fingers to pinch and poke a single lump of clay into any shape. - building technique COIL - A long rolled piece of clay (snake like). - building technique SLIP - A mixture of clay and water used like glue. SCORE - To scratch the surface of the clay to attach another piece of clay. GREEN WARE - The clay is dried out (no water) it’s ready to be fired, this is it’s most fragile state. KILN - A special oven for “firing” the clay. FIRE - To turn the kiln on and heat the clay up. Tempatures inside the kiln reach 1,900 to 2,400 degrees. |
