Independent Study
This is a self directed class the student will work independently to create a digital photography portfolio. The portfolio will contain images taken throughout the semester the images may be edited. Students will continue to build their skills through shooting a series of themed images (list on website) while doing research work and Photoshop assignments. This class is a continues collection of work that needs to take place over the entire quarter. Photos and papers will be turned in through Google Classroom.
This is an opportunity for you to build your skills and work towards a style you are comfortable in. It is up to you to build upon the assignment below and develop your own direction in this class, it is self guided. Talk with me about what you are thinking of doing for each quarter.

Written Work:
Photography an ART? (Q1)
Write a paper that defines art. State your opinion on whether photography is an art form. This needs to be 2 pages long, cite your work.
Artist Statement:(Q1)
Write an artist statement which applies to your images within your portfolio.
Research SD cards: (Q2)
Write a one page paper about what learned about the different types of SD cards. Areas to cover speed, physical size, capacity and other relevant information.
Compare and Contrast JPEG and RAW: (Q2)
Look into the two different file types and which would you use, when and why.
Camera Assignment: Compare and Contrast the images -- Take the same image using JPEG and RAW file.
-Put the images into a Google Doc
-Write about the differences and similarities (compare and contrast)
Research Crop and Full Frame Sensor: (Q2)
Write a one page paper after researching the different types of sensors. Look at the difference between Canon, Nikon, Sony and other camera companies.
Things to think about:
Which would you want to own?
Is there a time you would use one over the other?

1st Quarter - Explore different themes you want to base your portfolio and artist statement on. You are required to turn in 20 images.
2nd Quarter - Refine your selections to your top 40+ images, these should all be strong images used to create your Google Slides. Not all of your 20 images from 1st quarter will be in your final selection. Turn in your top 40 images (Google Classroom).

**NO FIRE, Themes not listed need to be approved by the teacher. When photographing themes school expectable art policy must be followed.
I-SPY Pages: (Q1)
This is an opportunity to be creative with laying out the objects and selecting a theme to create an I-Spy page. You will rearrange your objects several times capturing several images giving you several images to select your BEST one.
Select a theme (list below) that you will photograph throughout the semester. You need to do two different series at the same time, one inside and one outside.
1st Quarter - Explore different themes you want to base your portfolio and artist statement on. You are required to turn in 20 images.

- Objects - Chairs, Balloons, Books, Door knobs, Broken Glass etc...
- Architecture - Barns, Abandoned Buildings, Bridges, Doors, Stairs, Hallways, Windows, etc...
- Shapes - Repetitive shapes circles, squares, etc...
- Lego People - The Legographer
- Long Shutter Exposure - Night or low light photographs (Daytime using standard ND filter, dark grey glass)
- Apple - Shoot an apple in your own way or other everyday object, be creative.
- Body Parts - Hand, Eyes, Lips, etc....
- People - Captured in a different way
- Selfies: - Creative and inventive ideas
- Vehicles - Planes, Trains, Motorcycles, etc...
- Time of Day - Sunset, Sunrise, morning, evening, twilight, etc...

- Add text to your images using photoshop (what is it that your viewer is looking for?)
