** The event can be as big as a wedding or as small as brushing your teeth, as long as you can capture all the highlights and tell the whole story, don't over think this.
10 Tips for photographing an event:
- Go beyond capturing just the high points of the events, capture the fine details; food, signs, presents, decorations and etc.
- Help tell the whole story of the event by capturing a wide variety of shots.
- Take pictures of the entire venue and the people attending, then get in close. (Don't focus on one individual)
- Always be ready emotional shots aren’t always planned. (Example- Player scores a goal you can’t celebrate you have to keep your eye on the player and just shoot to get his/her reaction.)
- Ask if any special activities are planned so you know when to anticipate the shot (Example- At the end of a daddy daughter dance during a wedding there will always be an emotional separation between the dad and the daughter.)
- Get familiar with your location as quickly as possible.(Looking for different angles i.e. stairs)
- Trying to shoot discreetly to capture candid moments without intruding on the atmosphere.
- A big challenge of event photography is keeping up with rapidly unfolding events, so fast reflexes are a must!
- Photography is like fishing sometimes you “catch” the big one and other times you miss it, always be ready there are very few do overs.
- Charge the battery and make sure the SD card is clear, check the settings and being.
