Learning to Look
I can use observational skills to draw an object from life (this assignment the drawing is of a shoe) with realistic qualities.
Observational Drawings when you draw an object in front of you, not from a another source like a photograph, and draw exactly what you see without changing anything. Drawing from observation is designed to teach the student how to see and interpret the world around them. This type of drawing allows students an opportunity to take a three dimensional image and transfer the information onto a sheet of paper. Drawing #1 - Draw the object without looking at it. You can only look at your paper, this will help you to really look once you are allowed to look. Drawing #2 - Look at the object while you draw. Drawing #3 - Now you will do a Blind Contour of the object. Fix your eyes on the outline of the object, then track the edge of the object with your eyes, while drawing the contour very slowly, in a steady, continuous line DO NOT lift the pencil or look at the paper. Drawing #4 - Practice drawing the object before you begin your final drawing on white paper. You are looking at the object and your paper. Drawing #5 - Draw all FOUR of the shading techniques, select your favorite style, create 4 more different size spheres and shade them using the technique you like best. Also add an EIGHT square value scale. Use white paper for drawing #5.
Next start the FINAL DRAWING large white paper. You are trying to convince your viewer that your object is three dimensional, that it has form. Form is one of the seven elements of art. In terms of art, form refers to objects that are 3-Dimensional, or have length, width, and height. The world we live in is made up almost entirely of forms. As artists, we must have a strong understanding of form and how to create the illusion of form in drawings and paintings. **The object must be grounded either with a horizon line or a shadow, NO COLOR. |
Four Shading
Techniques:
Try each style of shading on a white piece of paper, next select which technique you feel you were most successful with. Draw 4 more (different sizes) shade spheres using the technique you selected. Somewhere on your page include a value scale, with 8 different values. Be creative in how you create your value scale. Total of 8 Spheres and one value scale. Turning it in:

Turning it in:
Paper clip your drawing #1, #2, #3, #4 rough draft, and #5 to the final drawing on white paper and put it on the correct shelf. Make sure your name and hour are on the back of your papers otherwise I can't grade it.
